About the Albany Area Metropolitan Planning Organization

The Albany Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (AAMPO) is one of 300 Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) around the country, and one of eight in Oregon. MPOs are established for all metropolitan areas with a population of 50,000 or more.

MPOs provide a venue for collaborative regional transportation planning. Work completed by MPOs supports the safe and efficient management, operation, and development of our regional transportation systems.

State and Federal Planning Requirements: The Regional Transportation Plan is a federally-required document that identifies a preferred future transportation system for the MPO area and drives MPO decision-making. The RTP will also serve as the Regional Transportation System Plan (RTSP) to establish compliance with Oregon Transportation Planning Rule (TPR). Because the RTP will be developed in accordance with the TPR requirements, the following jurisdictions will be asked to review and adopt the final plan: Linn County, Benton County, the City of Albany, the City of Jefferson, the City of Millersburg, and the City of Tangent.
